At Pier 12 Foundation Repair, we offer crawl space repair and crawl space encapsulation.
Do I Need Crawl Space Encapsulation?
Water or dampness in your crawl space can cause extensive damage. For example, having excessive moisture in your crawl space can lead to fungus and mold. Moisture can also cause structural damage to wood.
Furthermore, since your house and crawl space exchange air, mold and fungus caused by excessive moisture in your crawlspace can introduce unhealthy air in your home.
You might need Crawl Space Encapsulation if you answer yes to any of the following questions:
- Do you have a wet or damp crawl space?
- Do you have lots of insects in your crawlspace?
- Do you have pests, such as mice or squirrels, in your crawl space?
Crawl Space Encapsulation Explained
Encapsulating a crawl space, also known as vapor barrier, is a popular solution for controlling excessive moisture in your crawl space.
The encapsulation consists of a strong polyethylene barrier that completely covers the crawl space.
Using a Humidifier with Crawl Space Encapsulation
After we have sealed your crawl space with encapsulation, we often recommend adding a dehumidifier to regulate the moisture in your crawl space.

Crawl Space and Basement Water Proofing System
In addition to crawl space encapsulation, we also determine the source of moisture. For example, a moist or web crawl space is often caused by ground water, high water table, leaky plumbing, and sprinkler systems.
At Pier 12, we are trained to determine the cause of the moisture and install a system to control it. This usually involves a foundation drainage system and a sump pump.
